I hate networking
Fictional launch letter
Dear Duck,
I went to a networking event and spent the whole time pretending to read the program. How do people do this?

Dear Program Scholar,
Aim for one real conversation, not universal recognition. Ask somebody what brought them there, listen, and share one specific thing about your own work.
You are allowed to be interested instead of impressive. That is often a relief to everybody involved. Leave once you have done what you came to do. Nobody is awarding a crown for collecting the most damp business cards.
