The Witch at the Canal Bend

I don’t curse exes. I return them to the wild.

At the edge of Plume City, Doña Candela keeps a lantern burning beside the canal. She is a witch of candles, rosemary and small acts of nerve: her flame warms a cold room, and her remedies usually require the duck asking for help to do something as well. She moves to the music even when nobody else hears it. Her work is not prophecy; the Quacktician can keep his cards. Candela’s age and earlier history are unrecorded, and she has yet to enter a published story. For now, she is known by her moonlit working portrait and by the ducks who found their way home with her light.

The pointed indigo hat is hers. So is the lantern. The claims about the exes remain difficult to verify.
