They offered to pay me in exposure
Fictional launch letter
Dear Duck,
Someone wants my professional work for free because it would be great exposure. Should I do it?
— Visible and Hungry
Dear Edible Invoice,
Ask what specific benefit they are offering, who will see the work, and what rights they expect. Decide whether that exchange is genuinely useful to you. You may also simply quote your rate.
Exposure can be valuable. So can money, which enjoys the advantage of being accepted by shops. If their project is too prestigious to pay, perhaps it is prestigious enough to wait.
