A wedding invitation is not a summons
Fictional launch letter
Dear Duck,
My cousin’s wedding requires flights, four nights in a hotel, and three coordinated outfits. Is it awful to decline?
— Destination Exhaustion
Dear Financially Independent Guest,
An invitation is an offer, not a military order with a linen dress code. Send your warm wishes and decline promptly.
Do not submit a detailed account of your finances for the couple to audit. “I cannot make the trip” is a complete explanation. Love may be priceless, but apparently attendance now requires a payment plan and two shades of coastal blue.
